Leading Successful Projects

Organisations need to constantly evolve, whether they’re launching new products or campaigns, constructing new facilities, installing new technology, or developing specific initiatives to reduce costs. As instruments of strategy, projects are vital investments for the future of all organisations. These are initiatives that need - above all else - leadership. Leadership of Small Projects is a core competence for many professionals.

Regrettably not all specialists possess the skills to lead a project: to gather together colleagues on a temporary basis, using project tools, handling the differences that stakeholders introduce, and driving the project forward, can be tricky. In addition any initiative involving change is risky, and not all projects are as successful as initially hoped.

So what is different about projects?

Projects involve different challenges and ways of working.

  • more visible, with an increased focus on time, cost and quality goals.
  • more risky - projects are unique, so come with increased uncertainty.
  • working relationships are different across boundaries, and those involved have different backgrounds, approaches, reporting lines and priorities.
  • commitment is not automatic - people have different pressures and priorities on their time, so may see the project as 'extra work'
  • projects bring change – which is not always welcomed by everyone

What value can Leornian bring?

Establishing a project culture and process

For projects to be successful, people need to be attuned to project working. We can help establish the business process, disciplines and clear roles appropriate for your organisation. Typically, we approach this as a project in itself, working with you to develop what you need.

Developing project leadership and team skills

We design project leadership training modules ranging from one to three days. Our focus is on helping project leaders and team members to use project tools to clarify direction, gain commitment from and motivate the stakeholders, and lead the project to achieve success.

Helping project leaders develop

We coach project leaders to develop their skills further using a tailored approach. This might include 360° feedback diagnostic that focuses on three skill areas: project management, team leadership and change leadership.

Results

Increases in project achievements are extremely visible – and since they are central to the success of the organisation, payback is swift:

  • projects are more successful, since the project team is motivated and committed
  • projects are run in a disciplined and consistent way
  • the changes projects invariably bring are quickly accepted and adopted by those who will use them
