‘Grasping The Nettle’
Managing Poor Performance/Honest Conversations

As one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies, Pfizer is at the cutting-edge of the research and development of medicines for humans and animals, providing medicines taken by 2.7 million UK nationals every day
Pfizer is the world's largest research-based pharmaceutical company with a history of 50 operating years in the UK. With a global workforce of 90,000, Leornian has a long standing working relationship with Pfizer UK whose staff numbers exceed 4,000.
Despite Pfizer experiencing very challenging times in recent years, including the closure of its largest UK manufacturing site in 2007 – Pfizer has continued to invest in the development of its people managers
In order to remain at the top of its Industry, Pfizer recognises the need to sustain superior performance. For the last 12 years, Leornian Consulting has partnered Pfizer UK; equipping people managers with the confidence and skills to tackle poor performance early and to conduct honest & challenging conversations with the view of getting people back on track as quickly as possible.
‘Grasping The Nettle’ is a practical two-day programme which equips people managers with the skills and confidence to tackle poor performance before it gets serious. The programme develops managers to grasp the basics of UK employment law, better understand how to operate within their circle of influence, act fairly and reasonably with all employees regardless of employment status, colour or creed and conduct the honest conversations which invite, whenever possible, resolution using the informal process. The programme is highly pragmatic, using professional roleplay scenarios to encourage the practical application of skills in a safe learning environment
With a minimum of 18 months of people management experience, participants are invited to further accelerate their capabilities by attending the one-day ‘Advanced Grasping The Nettle’ programme. This one-day workshop, which has professional roleplay built in, challenges managers to tackle real Pfizer case studies involving an array of potential roadblocks including; long-term sickness, discrimination, capability issues, poor conduct, misuse of policies etc..

With a view to engaging all types of learners, the programme(s) methodologies used range from group facilitation, to professional role play and computer based learning modules.
